Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures. It can be performed at your dentist’s office, often in a single visit. We will first remove plaque, tartar, and other debris from each tooth’s surface, restoring its natural appearance. The teeth can then be whitened with a bleaching agent to achieve an even lighter shade than this original color.

Over the years, teeth become stained and worn from food, drinks, medication, and personal habits such as smoking. Whitening can restore your teeth to the natural brighter white smile, and this procedure can be done in the dental office or at home.

Patients who have specific teeth with noticeable stains that they’d like to have removed should carefully consider going to a professional to ensure that these stains are addressed with care and that the final results repair the problem fully. With an at-home kit, patients run the risk of making the problem appear worse rather than better. But professional teeth whitening systems are designed to address these types of issues.

If you have whitened your teeth recently, they may stain more easily. To keep your teeth white for as long as possible, avoid tobacco products and stain-causing food and drinks (like coffee, tea, and red wine) for several days after whitening. Keep in mind that teeth usually return to their original shade over time. But if you can steer clear of tobacco and large amounts of stain-causing food and drinks, your teeth may stay bright for several years.

Composite Bonding

Dental bonding, also known as composite resin bonding, is a technique that adds material to your teeth to alter or supplement their shape. Your dental professional applies and shapes a putty-like resin to your teeth before bonding them permanently in this procedure. Bonding repairs decayed, damaged, or discolored teeth using material that resembles tooth enamel color. Your dentist drills out the tooth decay then applies the composite onto the tooth’s surface, and then “sculpts” it into the right shape before curing it with a high-intensity light. Also referred to as “bonding,” this procedure effectively covers the tooth’s damage and gives the appearance of a healthy tooth in its place.

Bonding is one of the least expensive cosmetic dentistry procedures available to patients with tooth decay, chipped or cracked teeth, and worn-down edges. Composite bonding is an attractive option for many looking to approve the appearance of their smile or have damaged their teeth. According to the Cleveland Clinic, bonding materials can last between three and 10 years, depending on your oral hygiene.

Benefits of bonding may include:

  • The procedure can often be completed during a single visit

  • You may not require local anesthesia for the procedure

  • Inexpensive compared to other options

  • Removes less of your natural tooth than alternatives such as crowns and veneers

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers, sometimes called porcelain veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.

They look exceptionally realistic and can resolve numerous cosmetic problems. They are routinely used to fix:

  • Teeth that are discolored because of:

      • Root canal treatment
      • Stains from tetracycline or other drugs
      • Excessive fluoride
      • Large resin fillings
  • Teeth that are worn down

  • Teeth that are chipped or broken

  • Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them)

  • Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth)
